The Buckingham Pond Conservancy is off and running. Thirty-three people met at Bethany Reformed Church on Saturday, January 24th, for an energetic kick off of our new organization. There was a clear consensus among meeting participants that Buckingham Pond is the jewel of the neighborhood. Concerns focused primarily on the health of the pond, traffic and pedestrian safety, and maintenance of the park. Participants agreed that the Conservancy should be an ongoing organization with strategies such as deepening our understanding of current conditions at the pond, working to build coalitions with other community organizations, developing a volunteer program, and working with the City. The ideas generated during the meeting are included in the meeting notes which can be found here: Meeting Notes. At the end of the meeting, participants were invited to join the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee will be charged with formalizing the organization’s mission, prioritizing goals and devising a structure to achieve those goals. If you were unable to be at the meeting, but would like to be a member of the Steering Committee, please let us know right away at [email protected] or 518-522-6494. Members of the Steering Committee will be expected to make a major commitment of time and energy to the Conservancy.
