Friends of the Conservancy …
Buckingham Pond Conservancy needs your help. We’re a small, all-volunteer not-for-profit. Thanks to neighbors and friends like you, we have done so much with our very limited resources.
In 2017 we saw several long anticipated plans come to fruition with the installation of the fabulous new playground and improvements to the pond’s shoreline – a key component of the Lake Management Plan we developed in 2015. In partnership with the City of Albany, the Conservancy has made great strides towards protecting, preserving, and enhancing Buckingham Pond.
We’re proud of our 2017 accomplishments and are looking forward to 2018. This coming year will see more enhancements for the park (benches!) and additional work to improve the pond’s ecology. And of course, we will continue to foster strong relationships with City departments and the Pond’s neighbors.
But we can’t do any of it without the support of the people who care about the pond.
How can you help? Here are 5 ways to consider …
- Get Informed – Join us at the Annual Meeting on Sunday 4/15, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 10 N Main Ave Albany NY. The Annual Meeting is a great way to meet some neighbors and get an overview of the Conservancy. At the meeting we will be electing five board members to our nine person board. If you are interested in becoming a board member please contact us no later than 3/31/2018 at info@
BuckinghamPondConservancy.org. (Please note the new location. Bethany Reformed has graciously hosted us for many years, but could not accommodate us this year. St. Andrew’s has a very, very small parking lot, but there should be plenty of street parking on a Sunday afternoon. Enter through glass doors on the N. Main side.) - Get Connected – Celebrate Earth Day at our next clean-up – Sunday April 22 from 1:00 to 3:00, or attend a Board Meeting. We usually meet the second Monday of each month at 7:30 pm at the Bach Library on New Scotland Avenue. Confirm time and location on the website before heading over.
- Share your skills – We can use all kinds of help and are particularly looking for people with skills in social media, marketing, ecology, environmental engineering, grant writing and web development. Get in touch at info@
BuckinghamPondConservancy.org. - Join or Renew – We hope that you believe in what we are doing and will support the Conservancy with a $25 tax-deductible annual membership donation (or more if you can!). Our membership year runs April 1 to March 31, so if you are a current member, it’s time to renew. If you want to support our work but you can’t come to the meeting, membership donations can be made by mail to PO Box 8352 Albany NY 12208 or on line at our website.
- Claim your Brick – If you haven’t already, consider creating a lasting connection at the pond with a commemorative brick. Bricks will be sold only until the Annual Meeting and installed this season. Order at the annual meeting, order online (online orders can pay by check or cc), or let us know if you need a paper form.
Your contributions of time and money are the key to keeping Buckingham Pond thriving for generations to come. Please contact me at info@ buckinghampondconservancy.org. I look forward to working with you to help our pond.
Thanks for your support!
