Annual Meeting 2016 Summary
Native Planting & Shoreline Stabilization Area

by | Apr 6, 2016 | Events, Projects

Thanks to everyone who attended the Buckingham Pond Conservancy Annual Meeting, this past Sunday, April 3rd.

We had a great meeting and had an opportunity to review the recommendations from the recently completed Lake Management Plan for Buckingham Pond. This plan is a key part of the BPC strategy to improve water quality, and has been our major focus for the last year.  The plan was paid for by BPC, and developed by Barton & Loguidice engineers, with the assistance of the City of Albany’s Water Department. Many thanks to the Hudson River Valley Greenway and the Bender Family Foundation, as well as to BPC’s many members for making this  plan possible.

The plan lays out a series of actions needed to improve water quality at the pond. We were so pleased that Commissioner Joe Coffey announced that the Water Department will be making progress towards several of these items in the next year. BPC will also be continuing to seek grant funding for implementing these important activities, and we’ll keep you posted as more details are available.

Please join us at our Annual Spring Cleanup, Sunday April 17th from 1-3pm. We need your help to help maintain the Pond areas each Spring and Fall.

Also, I encourage those of you who live near the pond to support the new Buckingham Lake Neighborhood Association, by attending their inaugural meeting at The Bethany Reformed Church, 4pm, this Sunday April 10th. BLNA will focus on traffic, public safety and other neighborhood issues, allowing BPC to continue to focus on the pond and park. More information here: http://www.blnaofalbany.org.
