Sad News & May 2020 Updates
Native Planting & Shoreline Stabilization Area

As spring begins to emerge, Buckingham Pond Park is teeming with life—plant, animal, and human.

During these uncertain times, we would like to remind you to please keep at least six feet apart from other park users and wear a face mask whenever that’s not possible. There are many spots along the pond path that make for tricky social distancing—having a mask on during your visit is the respectful and responsible thing to do.  Also, the City of Albany has closed all of the playgrounds throughout the city, including the one at Buckingham Pond.

I am very sad to share the news of the passing of a beloved and long-time park employee, Jack Almy. Many of us have fond memories of Jack at the park—whether he was mowing or saying hi to his many canine friends, Jack was a fixture at Buckingham Pond Park for over two decades and a resident of the neighborhood. You are welcome to express your condolences to the Almy family here: https://www.newcomeralbany.com/Obituary/183793/John-Almy/Albany-NY

We will be honoring Jack’s memory and legacy with a new bench and plaque.  We thank the City of Albany for agreeing to do the installation work, and we would welcome donations to defray the cost of the Jack A. Almy Memorial Bench electronically or by mail to PO Box 8352  Albany, NY 12208

Our membership year ended on March 31st.  If your membership has lapsed and you want to renew, or if you would like to become a member of the Buckingham Pond Conservancy for the first time, membership donations can be made electronically or by mail.

The Buckingham Pond Conservancy board continues to meet monthly to work for the benefit of our pond.  Our meetings are virtual during this period of COVID closure. The next board meeting is Monday, May 18th. Board meetings are open to any member of the conservancy. If you would like to participate, please get in touch at info@buckinghampondconservancy.org and we can provide the information about joining.

Take care and be well—
