Planting Volunteers Needed
Shoreline Stabilization Area Phase 2 (2025)

by | Jul 3, 2025 | Events, Park Management, Projects

Volunteers Needed, Shoreline Planting, July 9, 2025, 9AM – 1PM

With funding from an Albany County Parks Green Infrastructure Improvement Grant, the City of Albany and the Buckingham Pond Conservancy are expanding the shore stabilization work started last summer. The More Trees Arborist Cooperative has been selected to remove invasive trees, shrubs and vines, and now we’re ready to put in native plants that will help to decrease erosion, stabilize the shoreline, improve wildlife habitat, and make our park a more pleasant place.

You Can Help

Part of the shoreline stabilization is to plant native species. Volunteering opportunities are part of the grant scope of work, and with your help More Trees and the BPC will be planting over 60 new plants, representing over 15 species, including buttonbush, spicebush, elderberry, bald cypress, dogwood, and iris.

When & Where

Planting day is Wednesday July 9, starting at 9AM and continuing to around 1PM. Please come and help out for as long as you can. The More Trees crew will be there to direct our work and advise us on how to maintain our new plantings. Project Background & Acknowledgments

Thanks to More Trees to doing the work, Albany Department of General Services for sponsoring the RFP to do the work, City Arborist Jay Lavigne for leading the effort, City of Albany’s Martin Daley and Albany County Legislator Gary Domalewicz for putting the grant forward to the County for funding through the Albany County Municipal Park Improvement Initiative Grant. All this work is building on the Buckingham Pond Conservancy’s Lake Management Plan and efforts in 2024 to implement the Phase 1 of the shoreline improvements with Jessica Marsico (That Garden Lady) and funding from Conservancy members and donors.

Thanks for your continued support!
